To become a certified Orff-Schulwerk educator, teachers must take three 2-week in-person classes consisting of pedagogy, recorder, and movement components. To become certifed to teach those summer courses, a teacher educator must undergo a rigorous process that involves extensive work teaching both adults and children, attending master classes in the Orff-Schulwerk approach, as well as a portfolio submission that demonstrates a deep understanding of the Orff-Schulwerk process. Kate is one of only 36 recorder teacher educators certified to teach all three levels in the United States of America. She currently teaches recorder levels I, II, and III at West Chester University as well as co-teaching recorder levels I, II, and III with Fauna Woolfe at Portland Orff Levels.

Secretary, American Center for Elemental Music and Movement

In the fall of 2015, Kate was awarded the Spotlight Award from the American Center for Elemental Music and Movement.  This award helped change her life, so she joined the Spotlight Committee to help other music teachers have the same wonderful experience.  Kate was then asked to join the board and is now the secretary. She now leads the Empowerment committee and is responsible for distributing Spark Grants, Beacon Scholarships, Spotlight Awards, and serves as moderator of ACEMM's weekly book study.  If you want to learn more about the amazing organization that is ACEMM, check out their website!

Choir Director, Hummelstown Community Singers

Since 2004, Kate has spent her Monday nights at the Hummelstown United Church of Christ either accompanying or directing the Hummelstown Community Singers.  A non-auditioned choir, the group began in 1990 and continues on today.  If you live in Central PA and would like to join us, check out our Facebook page for more information. We are currently preparing for our Winter 2022 concert!
